It’s finally spring time! At our house that means, a little more sunshine, blossoming trees, Easter, and Mother’s Day. One of my favorite parts of Mother’s Day prep is helping my kids make something for their Grandmas. Like most kids, mine think their Grandmas are the BEST! They are excited each year to make something for them. A popular choices over the years has been a kid stitched embroidery hoop. Cute, quick, and easy embroideries make a great homemade Mother’s Day gift for Grandma.
I initially designed this hoop when my daughter was 4- years-old and just beginning to learn how to stitch. The pattern is printed directly onto the fabric so you can see the dots from both sides of the fabric. All you kiddo has to do is follow the dots, either making a dashed line or a solid line.
The kit comes with two sets of instructions. One for younger kids (ages 5-6 or younger), and one for older kids (ages 6-7 plus).
Younger kids will learn to make a running stitch. The simple dashed line makes the shape fill complete while keeping things simple. The dots allow your little to focus on going up or down on the correct side of the fabric without wondering where to put their needle next. Grandma will love the little imperfections that show their special grandkid made it for her.
The backstitch takes this homemade Mother’s Day gift for Grandma to the next level. Around the age of 6, kids start to think more about how the stitching works. This makes it the perfect time to introduce the backstitch. Still following the dots, they learn to cover all the lines and make a complete image. Grandma is bound to be impressed with the added difficulty of making a complete line of stitching.
Part of the charm for this hoop, and the fun for the kids, is the variegated floss. The constantly changing floss makes each stitch a surprise and the finished hoop has an added layer of interest. The kit comes with 4 color options to make your kiddo’s and Grandma’s preferences.
You can get your Fun Flower kid kit HERE in my shop. You can also get the companion Fancy Flower adult kit HERE. The adult kit would make a great handmade Mother’s Day gift from daughter to mom. It would also make a super fun gift to give both kits to Grandma or Mom to stitch with their little one after Mother’s Day. You can get a combo Fun Flower and Fancy Flower kit HERE.
